Starting with shrinking helps. “Whether it’s historic brownstone or a more modern home, we always recommend looking for bones of inspiration,” said Jordan Slocum and Barry Bordelon of Brownstone Boys, a Brooklyn-based design firm. The foundation of natural stone is a country-style invitation that includes aging growers and wrought iron taverns. Mix and match
