Earlier this month, international fashion environments flocked to Copenhagen for Spring Fashion Week 2026. It seems everyone has a memo to wear a small crochet skull.
The streets of Denmark are filled with hats of various colors, some adorned with beads, and some are more like nets. Chloe King, director of fashion and lifestyle at Saks Global, is one of the fans of Copenhagen Trends, although her Alessandro Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-Michele-The Gucci hat has been aired for many seasons. She said: “I first wore a Gucci hat in New York a few years ago to comment from friends and colleagues.
There was no editorial group chat, and everyone decided to wear a hat (I can confirm anyway), but King said the trend has been brewing for some time. “Over the past few seasons, people have been building the passion for hats, so stylish Danish girls will be right in the trend,” she said. “Crochet especially feels like a natural part of Copenhagen’s fashion term, adding the quality of the handicraft to the smallest pieces like shelter or denim.”
Fashion content creator and writer Mandy Lee (aka @oldloserinbrooklyn) noted that hats fit into the trend cycle. “One of the more general trends in the 2020s is an obsession with nostalgia. The 70s fashion fashion in the early 2000s.” (American Girl Doll Aficionados may recognize the hat of Julie Albright, who wore Belbertom.)
Still, Lee added: “I think there is definitely more.” No trend declined, Quoth Kamala Harris emerged from the coconut tree. Lee first pointed out the swimsuit-style skull on the Prada 2024 runway. The brand doubled with the same tight hat, but had a more traditional weaving at the men’s clothing show in fall 2024. (The King cites brands like Bode and Diotima, who focus on craftsmanship, as leaders.) “There was a time, especially after the pandemic, that we covered our faces and that kind of covered our heads,” Lee said.
Now, Lee sees this emerging trend as a product of cultural migration to the right. (It is also similar to religious head covers, such as Kuffi and Yarmoor.) “We have an action in our fashion now that can be vibrant now, there is a conservative shift in the head and face covering,” she said. She now sees it as a consistent thread. Responses to surveillance culture and Balaclav and the mask.
Despite the darker undercurrent, Lee believes the crochet skull trend is emerging, and may peak this winter as temperatures drop. “There is a pre-approved buy from fashion history, and that’s always a factor: it does exist,” she said. “There is some history of scrutiny that I think will make people more safely involved in the trend.”
