Is This Statement Sofa the Next Piece of Viral Furniture?

When it comes to coveted furniture, there is a tendency to stick to the past (recognized) design: Eames chairs are basically little black dresses for any home, while Italian modernist sofas, such as Togo, Camaleonda, or De Sede, sell almost from the beginning. Few contemporary brands (even without even being supported by large conglomerates) have been able to break through the nostalgic noise: except Ellison Studios.

First is their hug chair, scooped by tastemakers like Jenna Lyons and Elsa Hosk. Their buoy sofas were then watched in Aurora James’ Laurel Canyon and in the historic landmark Stahl House. Their latest statement design? Poet’s sofa.

Ellison Studios co-founder Leigh McKeown collaborated with Tiffany Powell of Night Palm to design the poet Elle Decoration Class A interior designers include Doechii and Laura Harrier among clients. It has a curved back and biological shape, which McKeown described as a “female.” There are three colors: neutral dunes, jade green and tactile camel bundles. “We know we want something bigger, we want something very sculptural,” he said.

McKeown and Powell, who were music video directors before becoming interior designers, said they found inspiration in British singer Sade: “We were like, ‘Well, if she had a sofa, what would that look like, what would McKeown look like?’’ She also wanted the sofa to feel like the stars in the room, not the stuff of fusion: “I want it to be romantic and movies,” she said. “I thought of all the beautiful events printed on the sofa – watching movies, kissing, partying. When we design it, it has to be of this scale to make these memorable things happen to this piece of furniture. ”

The campaign images of the sofa were taken in a multi-million dollar cliff house in Malibu, where the poet sits in a grand glass room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. In a room put up As a statement, the sofa still manages to be the main statement. McKeown and Powell’s intentions were exactly what they planned.
